About Leading From Your Strengths Profiles

Leading From Your Strengths (LFYS) Profiles are personalized, detailed 20-page reports which accurately describe your individual habitual patterns of behavior, thought, emotion, and communication. They provide you with sophisticated, objective insights and action steps about your unique strengths – data you and your team can use immediately and long-term.

man at laptopProfile reports are compiled and presented instantaneously after you or a team member completes a simple, 10-minute online questionnaire. Results are delivered immediately by email.

The questionnaire consists of 24 boxes. Each box contains four adjectives we call “descriptors.” The user reads each of the four descriptors and chooses which one describe what he is most like and least like.

It’s that simple.

The profile report

Although the profile questionnaire is quick and simple to complete, it provides sophisticated data in a 20-page report in the following sections:

Introduction: a detailed overview of the report contents.

Your Natural Strengths

  • Your Natural Strengths Scales: a narrative explanation of the four scales used to measure your natural strengths: problem solving, processing information, managing change, and facing risk.
  • Your Natural Strengths Chart: a visual picture in graph form representing your natural strengths in the four predictable areas: problem solving, processing information, managing change, facing risk.
  • General Characteristics: a narrative summary which summarizes a broad understanding of your strengths.
  • Value to the Team: a list of specific talents and strengths that you bring to a team.

Communication

  • Do’s in Communicating: a checklist for others to use with you (or for you to specify to others) that outlines action steps they can take to communicate effectively with you.
  • Don’ts in Communicating: a checklist for others to use with you (or for you to specify to others) that outlines communication methods that frustrate you or reduce your performance.

Environment

  • Ideal Environment: a list of duties, responsibilities, and environments that allow you to flourish and those that may frustrate you.

Leading and Motivating

  • Keys to Motivating: a list of what can motivate you, based on your wants and values.
  • Keys to Leading: a list of what you need from a leader so that you can perform at your optimum level.
  • Areas for Improvement: a list of your natural limitations or tendencies, allowing you to create an action plan for moving forward.

Self-Understanding

  • Perceptions: a list of ways you see yourself and ways others see you.

Your Adapted Strengths

  • Strengths Movement: a narrative explanation of strengths movement – the measure of how your current environment impacts your strengths positively and negatively.
  • Strengths Movement Chart: a visual picture in graph form of both your natural strengths and the impact of your current environment on those strengths, presented in the four predictable areas: problem solving, processing information, managing change, facing risk.

Why Use Profiles::

Why Use the Profiles?

Of all places, the Christian church can be a refuge from the relational battles that rage in our culture. But harmony and reconciliation are not flourishing in the body. Rather, today’s ministries and churches are routinely characterized by division – or at best, the status quo.

teamGod’s plan offers something much better than that. He created every member of a team with unique strengths (1 Corinthians 12) … strengths that are meant to blend together to build His Kingdom.

Often leaders are unaware that the differences in their people actually represent enormous strengths. But once leaders recognize the need to pursue God’s plan for differences with their staffs and teams, the results are life-changing.

Here are just some of the reasons leaders like you have used Leading From Your Strengths profiles with their teams – with transformational results.

Churches
Ministry leaders struggle to have positive, productive relationships within their staff and among congregations as never before. But as conflicts deepen, fractured relationships lead to burnout. Here are some truths about what is happening in churches today:

  • Each month, 1,600 pastors are terminated or forced to resign their pulpits.
  • 50% of pastors have considered leaving the ministry in the last six months.
  • 85% of seminary graduates who enter full-time ministry will not survive in the ministry for more than 5 years.
  • 61% pastors admit that they “have few close friends.”
  • Only 1 out of every 10 pastors will actually be in some form of professional ministry upon retirement.
  • Leaders cite the number one reason they leave the church is conflict.

Sources: The Alban Institute, The Barna Group, The Fuller Institute, Pastoral Care, Inc., SBC LeaderCare Program, Sunscape Ministries of Colorado

Workplaces
“Genuine teamwork remains as elusive as it has ever been,” according to executive team development consultant Patrick Lencioni. “The foundational dysfunction is an absence of trust.” This lack of trust leads to fear of conflict. Christian ministries are not immune, but rather experience the same kinds of relational struggle as mainstream commercial enterprises.

  • A recent study of 1,736 ministry leaders concluded one of their lowest-rated priorities is creating a healthy corporate culture.
  • 40% of staff members in Christian organizations feel there is not a high level of trust between senior management and employees.
  • 46% of workers in Christian organizations describe themselves as “neutral” or “unengaged.”
  • 85% of leaders say their greatest problem is dealing with difficult people, such as disgruntled or uncooperative staff members, board members, and colleagues.

What People Say About Leading From Your Strengths Profiles

4 people blurry“Prison Fellowship uses the Leading From Your Strengths profile and training materials for our Leadership Institute. We want to keep our focus on serving the Lord and advancing His Kingdom. We use LFYS to train our staff on solving problems before they surface, as a coaching tool to help resolve conflict with a ministry team, and placing staff in positions that match their strengths abilities.”
Charles W. Colson (1931-2012)
Special Counsel to President Richard Nixon; founder of Prison Fellowship, noted Christian leader and cultural commentator

“Past experiences with other tests made me skeptical of taking the assessment even though I like graphs and tests. Nevertheless, at the advice of my coach, I took the Leading From Your Strengths profile. I admit I think it is the real deal. The profile has helped me understand myself and even my place in the world better. I’ve been hardwired by God to be the way I am. The things about myself I used to think of as a kind of a curse I am now growing to understand as actual gifts, because God crafted me like this. I am learning to embrace my introversion as a strength and not a deficiency of some sort – a complete reversal from what I have felt all my life.

“Leading From Your Strengths assessment is like a breath of fresh air for finding your “place” in the world and for enriching ALL your relationships. The profile provides an awareness that helps us embrace our own personalities and the personalities of others in our sphere of influence. Thank you, Ministry Insights, for this treasure!”

Leading From Your Strengths Profile FAQs

Q. What’s the difference between Leading From Your Strengths Profiles and your other profile products?
A. All Ministry Insights profile products draw upon the same principle: every person is uniquely gifted and contribute to his or her work environment, marriage, or family. Each profile set analyzes your one-of-a-kind personality information and equips you to use your strengths in that particular setting (Leading From Your Strengths Profiles in your work setting, Marriage Insights Profiles in your marriage, and Family Insights Profile in your family.)

2 people meeting at a coffee shopQ. Can I purchase profiles for other people, such as members of my team?
Yes. When you purchase profiles online, you will designate an email delivery address (or addresses) on the order form. You will receive a receipt for your purchase onscreen. Simultaneously, an email is delivered to the address(es) you designate, which includes a web site address and a personalized response link (single-use password). Recipients go to the website, enter their personalized response link, and complete the process.

Q. Should our team fill out our questionnaires together?
A. No. You and your team members should fill out profile questionnaires individually.

Q. Can I take the profile questionnaire if I am not at my own computer?
Yes. Profiles can be completed at anytime, from any Internet-connected computer in the world. Your results will be delivered immediately to your inbox.

Q. Are the profiles available in other languages in addition to English?
Currently, the Leading From Your Strengths profile is the only profile product fully translated into Spanish, meaning both the online questionnaire and the profile results are available in Spanish. To choose this option, log onto the questionnaire website (www.justrespond.com), and select Spanish from the response language drop-down menu. Both your online questionnaire and profile results will be in Spanish; the purchasing agent for the profile will receive the profile results in English. If the purchasing agent is the respondent, he will receive two sets of results, one in English and one in Spanish.

The online questionnaire can be completed in more than 30 languages by simply selecting a different language option at the questionnaire website. However, profile results are provided only in English (or Spanish). View the available questionnaire languages at www.justrespond.com by clicking on the drop-down menu in the upper right corner.

Q. How should we use the profile reports?
A. Sharing your profile results with your team will become a great springboard to increased communication and understanding. After both of you have completed the questionnaire and received your personal profile report, set aside time to discuss the results. Download the Leading From Your Strengths Workbook. Go through it on your own to gain deeper insights about your individual report. Ask team members to do the same. Use the Leading From Your Strengths Team-Building Discovery Kit with your team. Identify which actions step to take as a team short-term and long-term.

Q. What is the difference between Leading From Your Strengths Profiles and Position Insights Profiles?
A. The Leading From Your Strengths Profile is a personalized, 20-page report that captures the strengths of an individual after that person fills out a 10-minute questionnaire. The Position Insights Profile is a 12-page report, completed by a recruiting team answering questions about the strengths demands for a job, which provides a clear and accurate picture of the behavioral demands of a specific job or position. Family Insights Profile: Lead From Your Strengths

Family Insights Profile Helps Families Lead From Their Strengths

God created each member of your family with unique strengths. His plan for families is not for isolation or broken relationships, but rather closeness and support. The problem is, until now, families have not had a simple way to capture their unique strengths in a meaningful way and understand how they can work together.family on hammock

Family Insights Profiles empower families to take this step – for each of you to discover and use your God-given strengths, to value each others’ strengths, and to blend. Parents complete a Parent Insights Profile. Teens complete a Teen Insights Profile. Together, family members come together and share their results.

Whether you’re looking to strengthen your family or bring unity from conflict – don’t just survive. Your family can thrive.

About Profiles::

About Family Insights Profiles

Family Insights Profiles are actually two sets of reports: the Parent Insights Profile and the Teen Insights Profile. Each family member, whether parent or teen, completes the appropriate questionnaire and receives an individualized profile report by email. Together, parents and teens share their results using the Family Insights Process Guide free download.

African American family walking on lakefront beachThis simple process allows all of you to discover the unique differences in your family and equip you with the understanding to value those differences, increasing communication and building supportive, closer relationships during this crucial time in your family’s life.

About Parent Insights Profile

The Parent Insights Profile is for parents. It is a personalized, detailed 20-page report outlining your individual and relational strengths and how you apply them to your family relationships. The report accurately and objectively describes who you are in your family, your parenting style, keys to motivating you based on your wants and values, and keys to effective communication based on your strengths.

Profile reports are compiled and presented instantaneously after you complete a simple, 10-minute online questionnaire. Results are delivered immediately by email.
When you and your family members share each others’ reports with each other, you will begin to understand each other better and discover how you complement one another. The profiles also provide action steps to equip you to communicate more effectively and grow closer as a family. You’ll have the ability to speak each others’ language like never before.

About Teen Insights Profile

The Teen Insights Profile is for teenagers. It is a personalized, detailed 20-page report outlining your teen’s individual and relational strengths and how he or she applies them to your family relationships. Designed specifically for adolescents, the report statements are written in the first person and will read as if your son or daughter had opened the window into their deepest wants, needs and desires. The report accurately and objectively challenges your teen to assess their decision-making style, discover the most effective way they accomplish tasks, and handle conflict. This profile will be liberating and encouraging for them, and will give them an objective platform to share information and understanding with you.

Profile reports are compiled and presented instantaneously after your teen completes a simple, 10-minute online questionnaire. Results are delivered immediately by email.

The profile questionnaire

Both Parent Insights and Teen Insights questionnaires consist of 24 boxes. Each box contains four adjectives we call “descriptors.” The user reads each of the four descriptors and chooses which one describe what he is most like and least like.

It’s that simple.

The Profile Report

Both the Parent Insights Profile and Teen Insights Profile are packed full of information to improve communication in your family. Each includes the following sections:

  • Introduction: an explanation of the meanings of the letters in Your Style Analysis Graph and brief description of the basic character traits.

Your Strengths

  • Your Style Analysis Graph: a visual picture in graph form of your “core” style in four relational areas: problem solving, processing information, managing change, facing risk.
  • General Statements: a narrative summary which outlines a broad understanding of your strengths and behavioral style. The teen version is in first person, as if your teen recorded a list describing his or her own strengths and behaviors.

Communication

  • Checklist for Communicating: practical ways for others to communicate with you.
  • Don’ts on Communicating: practical steps for others to avoid when communicating with you.
  • One-Word Descriptors: words that may describe you in the four predictable areas.
  • Communicating with Others: a list of ways you can improve your communication with others.

Self-Understanding

  • Perceptions: a list of ways you see yourself and ways others see you.
  • Action Plan: a guide for preparing a plan to improve communication.

Your Adapted Strengths

  • Additional Insights: a narrative explanation of how much you feel you may need to adapt your core style to match the needs or requirements of your home environment and to fit your unique family relationships.
  • Style Analysis Graphs: a visual picture in graph form of your “core” style and your “adapted” style.
  • How Are You Having to “Adapt”?: a list of descriptions of how you may feel you need to respond to the current home environment to be successful as a parent or accepted by your parents as a teen.
  • The Ministry Insights Wheel: a narrative and visual explanation that reveals your family’s collective strengths.

Sharing your Family Insights Profiles with your family will become a great springboard to increased communication and understanding. Use the Family Insights Process Guide (a free download) to walk you through sharing your profiles and forming a plan to blend differences.

Why Use Profiles::

Why Use Family Insights Profiles?

Differences divide people today as never before. A large percentage of homes are filled with conflict, isolation, or brokenness. Families everywhere are torn apart and are in crisis – and Christians are not immune.

family walking on a fenceGod’s plan for families offers something much better than that. He gives each family member unique strengths that are meant to blend together to create an atmosphere of mutual support – to complement, not compete (1 Corinthians 12, Psalm 68:6, Psalm 133:1).

How Families Can Become Stronger

Often families are unaware that their differences actually represent enormous strengths.  But once parents and children recognize the need to pursue God’s plan for differences in their families, the results are life-changing. No matter what the family unit – a single-parent family, a traditional family, or a blended family – each member brings individual strengths to the unit and makes it stronger.

Why Do Families Choose to Discover Their Strengths?

The break up of the American family is not a new story, although recent studies demonstrate its devastating impact on our culture. Fortunately, new generations understand the value of the family as our social unit. 61% American “Millennials” – those born between 1980 and 1991 – say family comes first in their list of what’s important, ahead of friends, education, careers and even religion. That’s excellent news!

Here are a few more reasons families like yours have used Family Insights Profiles in their homes with transformational results.

  • 40% of children growing up in America today are being raised without their fathers.
  • One of every 3 children born in the U.S. is the child of an unwed mother.
  • 26% of children under 21 live with a single parent.
  • The vast majority of American parents (91%) say that being a success as a parent does not include instilling faith in God in their children.
  • 70% of Americans say they have a frustrating or difficult relative.
  • When asked what they wished their parents had done differently during times of conflict, 5,000 surveyed adults say they wished their parents had listened more, they wished they could have talked about feelings more, and they wished they had talked to their parents more.
  • An informal poll by a leading wellness educator reports that 82% find family gatherings stressful; 53% say their stress stems from interacting with difficult relatives.

About Profiles ::

About Position Insights Profiles

Position Insights Profiles establishes the strength-based job benchmark for any position — paid or volunteer. They are detailed, 12-page reports compiled and presented instantaneously after a small committee of stakeholders completes a simple questionnaire focusing on the strengths demands of the job itself (not the strengths of the person who will perform the job.) The report identifies the strengths needed for each position in your ministry, specifically in four key areas:

  • Pencil and questionnaireSolving problems
  • Influencing others
  • Responding to the pace of the environment
  • Following rules and procedures

The questionnaire

The questionnaire consists of 40 statements about the job. Each statement is followed by 6 boxes arranged as a continuum from “extensive” to “very limited.” Each committee member individually ranks one block at a time, in relation to their feedback about the job. Together, the committee gains a consensus about each statement and proceeds to the next block until all blocks are completed.

It’s that simple.

The profile report

The Positions Insights Profile includes the following:

  • A graph of the behavioral profile of the position
  • A written summary of the position, including an overview of the strengths needed for the position
  • Success Insights Wheel, demonstrating the strengths an ideal candidate would bring to your team
  • Detail pages of the requirements in the position for each of the four key behavioral areas (Problems and Challenges, People and Information, Pace and Change, Procedures and Rules).

Combining the Profiles

Predictable issues and conflicts can be avoided if the recruiting team or leader assesses how much “strength” or intensity of each one of four key factors is needed for a person to succeed in the job. After completing the Position Insights Profile and identifying these four issues required by the position, your recruiting team can invite candidates to complete the Leading From Your Strengths Profile. Results can then be used to compare a candidate’s strengths in those four areas to the strengths most needed in the position.

How Position Insights Profiles can help in the staffing process

  • Build consensus. Your team can reach agreement about expectations for positions and candidates.
  • Foster clarity. Your team can create a comprehensive report on the behavioral demands of a position.
  • Outline expectations. Your team can gain insight into the unwritten expectations of each position.
  • Cultivate longevity. You can reduce staff turnover by matching the position with the ideal candidate.
  • Evaluate ministry-wide. You have flexibility to evaluate and fill any position.

A. You can select who contributes to the process. We recommend you identify a small group of 3-5 invested stakeholders, including the hiring manager, position supervisor, current person in the position who is exceeding expectations, and 1-2 people who the position will serve.

Q. Must I use both the Position Insights Profile (to create benchmark strengths) and the Leading From Your Strengths Profile (for potential candidates) in order to successfully fill a position?
A. No. While we urge you to use both tools for the best possible results, the two profiles can be used independently in the candidate selection process.

How often should I take a profile?

While your natural strengths data is not likely to change over the course of your lifetime, your adaptive strengths data will change as you move into new circumstances or new environments. Adaptive strengths data will also change as you grow and mature.

When to Take a Profile

We recommend a profile be retaken every year to 18 months — or sooner if there is any significant change in your environment.

How Secure Is My Profile Report?

computer with lock to secure profile information

Customers take data privacy very seriously and so do we. We understand that when someone gives you their phone number or their credit card number, they want to feel confident that their information stays the right hands.

Although the Leading From Your Strengths online questionnaire, also known as the assessment, must be accessed by the customer, the resulting profile report is generated in real-time and kept completely private. Without exception, all profiles are completely confidential. They are only delivered to the email address you provide and/or to the purchasing agent.

Ministry Insights was founded in 2001, and has been specializing in data security and encryption years before there were industry standards. Be assured that your profile information, as well as your personal information, is stored securely with our organization.

If You Misplace Your Profile Report

Ministry Insight does save a copy of your report on a secure, dedicated server in case you misplace it or need to another copy delivered to your email address. Ministry Insights’ servers, web sites, shopping cart and online questionnaire processes are all secured using the highest standards in Internet technology and computer security protocols.

What if I disagree with my profile?

Occasionally a user may disagree with profile results.

Ministry Insights profiles are generated based upon responses to the online questionnaire. They reflect the unique behavioral style associated with those responses. For example, if a mostly dominant, assertive, confident person chooses accurate descriptors on the assessment, the report will highlight those characteristics in the text and graphs.

However, no man-made assessment can ever take into account all of the complexities of a human being or how they behave in all situations. As the psalmist wrote, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14).

What May Cause You to Disagrees With Profile Results

There may be some statements in your profile report that don’t apply directly to you. We recommend that you explore those fully by discussing with someone close to you and then if you still disagree, strike those statements and focus on the statements with which you agree.

In rare instances, an individual who is experiencing high levels of stress may not be able to respond to the questionnaire with a high degree of clarity. If you feel this could be a contributing factor in the responses you provided, we recommend that you re-take the profile at a later time when the stress in your life has subsided.

From time to time, users attempt to second-guess the profile questions or “trick” the profile when completing the questionnaire. In these instances, it is understandable that the results will not reflect your true strengths and behaviors.

How do I apply the profile?

couple sitting on the couch talking about ways to apply the profileUsers want to know how to apply the profile in practical ways.

The profiles help you recognize and understand your God-given strengths. In addition, they provide an objective platform and practical statements to use for improving communication with others.

The Best Way to Apply the Profile

The most valuable method for applying the profile is sharing and discussing your results with others. Consider discussing your profile report with family members, friends, and your small group.

More Ways to Apply the Profile

Use the support tools offered on this website (including free downloads, workbooks, videos, books, and curriculum) to guide you through the process of understanding and applying your strengths. You’ll find that the support tools provide additional information to help you clarify and understand how to get the most out of your profile.

Further, we recommend that you review your profile report periodically. You can also retake a profile every year to 18 months, or when there are substantial changes in your environment, to identify ways to grow further.
